Leadership

The GWPA is governed by an elected Steering Committee, which includes the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and representatives from each GW school and college. Elections will be held once a year during the GWPA General Assembly (GA) meeting, taking place sometime in October/November and committee members will serve for one year terms. All GWPA members (all GW Postdocs) are eligible to vote, to nominate others, and to be nominated as committee members. This is a great way to serve your fellow postdocs, while also building and demonstrating your leadership skills!

About the roles:

President - Facilitates monthly Steering Committee meetings and annual General Assembly. Serves as a liaison between the GWPA and faculty and administration. Supports subcommittees in their work.

Vice President - Supports the president and assumes their duties, or duties of other officers, in their temporary absence. Serves as a point of contact for the Faculty Senate.

Secretary - Records meeting minutes. Supports social media and other GWPA communications.

Treasurer - Manages financial transactions on behalf of the GWPA. Maintains financial records and prepares an annual financial report. Communicates about the budget and works with Steering Committee members to support GWPA activities.

School and College Representatives - Shares information about the GWPA with members of their school or college. Contributes to GWPA programming that may be of interest to members of their school or college.

If you are interested in taking on a leadership role in the GWPA, contact gwpostdoc@gwu.edu.
